AIM 40 Drag Bag
My first introduction to AIMfieldsports Drag Bag series was the AIM 60; the longest/largest they manufacture. Now they have three sizes - the AIM 40 (on test), 50 and 60. The nomenclature denotes the length of gun in inches that it will accept, so this might be considered the carbine version. As with the others the AIM 40 has been designed along the lines of a sniper drag bag that are often very expensive pieces of kit. But though following the Tactical trend it doesn’t follow the price and easily equals all other top brands for quality.
Extra thick
The bag is made from 1000 denier Cordura nylon with extra thick, closed-cell foam padding with all handles being box stitched for strength. It measures 42 x 12 x 3” and currently available in green or black only. Like the other drag bags, the pocket layout is the same yet proportionately reduced in size.
Stowage consists of top and bottom, zip-closed pockets set along one side – the upper is 19 x 10 x 2” and the lower 12 x 10 x 2”. This one having an extra outer pocket which is opened by a diagonal zipper. The pockets also easily ‘hinge open’ at the bottom for greater ease of access and inside have elasticated loops for helping keep items in place.
The bag fastens with a heavy-duty zip with a cord toggle attachment and when fully open double sup as a short but useable shooting matt. An over flap protects the main zip while six, fastex-type clips with adjustable straps give extra security. These are positioned two on the bottom of the bag, three along the top side and one that also holds and secures a muzzle protector/cum drag hood with an integral handle on the top.
Hidden secrets
On the opposite side to the pockets there’s a zipped panel. This contains a pair of detachable and adjustable padded shoulder harness with sternum strap. Obviously there’s also a standard Velcro secured padded carry handle. Inside for security in transit is a butt pouch stock support and three adjustable straps/clips to ensure your pride and joy won’t shift when you’re on the move.
There’s even storage for a cleaning rod along the hinge spine, which is a useful feature; especially for firearms use.
As the company have grown, this bag may be their smallest but like all others it’s one of the best gunbags of its kind on the market.
