Airmasters Accessories Universal Butt Hook

Butt Hooks are all the rage on the Field Target scene, but are also becoming increasing popular in other areas of the shooting world. The idea of a ‘hook’ is for the assembly to actually pass under the arm, unlike a standard pad, and by so doing, the rifle is held firmly in place, unable to slip from position. Standing shots in particular, can be taken with greater confidence, which is an advantage, whether competition shooting or hunting.

The new Universal Butt Hook from Airmasters, is therefore aimed at any discerning shooter, who wishes to significantly improve handling characteristics. Where the Airmasters take on this popular theme really scores for me though, is the fact that it has the appearance of a traditional rubber butt pad (when supplied black anodised), whilst being machined from solid aluminium. Consider how most butt hooks, resemble something from Robocop, and this is no mean feat. Gone are the multitude of adjustable protruding nuts and bolts, curious tabs of metal, and a general ensemble of unsightly odds and ends. Even nylon balls….what were you thinking Anschutz?

Kit Form

The Butt Hook is supplied as a basic kit comprising of a plastic pre-drilled backing sheet, central rod, the Hook itself, wooden dowels, fixing screws and instructions. Fitting the Hook is a fairly simple process - a brief account of which follows:

1. First remove the existing butt pad. Most are fixed with two screws, which may be countersunk in the rubber. The small dowels supplied are to blank off any unusable holes, allowing for a firm base to drill if necessary.

3. Screw central rod over backing onto rifle, and then finally slide the Butt Hook into position.

4. The neat design then allows for the hook to be raised or lowered, and rotated as required. Once the position is right, the central grub screw is gently nipped up.
