Fenix TK15 Gun Light Kit

The latest offering from Fenix clearly illustrates how compact certain models are, yet still capable of putting out more light ‘power’. Based on their popular TK15 R5 model, the S2 has all the original functions but now has the capability of offering 400 lumens instead of the 337L rating of the standard model. This also gives higher peak beam intensity, plus there’s dual recoil springs in the battery compartment for a completely secure connection so it can’t be affected by heavy-recoiling rifles or if shotgun mounted. There’s a removable body tube and the new design of the rear tail/mode switch means access to its operation is far easier even with gloved hands.

LOOKS GOOD

The black anodised, aircraft grade aluminium body is 145mm long and with tail switch in position is 25.4mm in diameter with a front lens housing widened to 34mm. It weighs 152g (excluding batteries), is impact resistant and also has a removable/lockable belt clip.

A water proof specification rating, often used and little explained is ‘IPX’, this relates to the depth a unit can be submersed and still be operable. The higher the number the better the protection. The S2 is IPX-8 so can be submerged to 2m, not that you would, but it means no worries even in a down pour. It also has a premium toughened glass lens with multiple anti-reflective coatings giving maximum light transmission.

FOUR LEVELS

Like the R5 the S2 features four levels of output plus strobe and a convenient side-mounted mode switch for brightness/strobe selection. The highly efficient Cree XP-G S2 LED provides impressive run times at all output levels whilst delivering a reach in excess of 250 metres plus powerful ‘spill lighting’ to safely illuminate your surroundings.

Powered by 2 x CR123A batteries or a 1 x 18650 Li-ion rechargeable supplied this kit also includes double mains charger, scope mount, remote switch and one filter. In handheld mode, using the momentary/constant-on tailcap push button switch at the rear, you can cycle output levels using the side dimmer button. Your chosen brightness level is also memorised so the light will always activate at the last setting (except strobe.) Strobe mode can be quickly accessed by a continued press of the mode button. Modes are Low (6Lumens), Mid (55L), High (165L) and highest setting (Turbo) the name being very fitting as you leap up to (400 Lumens). Approximate run times are 171, 21, 6 and 2hr respectively.

The forward top positioned ‘matt chrome’ push button switch can also access these 4-brightness settings instantly.

Fenix are giving all the usual name brand LED gun mounted torch manufacturers a run for their money and the TK15 S2 is proof of that!
