Gerber Moment Knives

Gerber offers a comprehensive range of field knives from large fixed blades to small folders, so when they add a new model/name in all configurations you can be pretty sure it’s going to be of interest. That’s exactly what their Moment Pocket Folder, Folding Sheath Drop Point and Moment Fixed Drop Point Knife are all about.

COMMON THEMES

Naturally they share commonalities of build including being manufactured from 5Cr15Mov Carbon Steel which is given an anti-glare, glass bead-blasted finish. Grip plates are made up of a Nylon core with a textured rubber over-mould to aid grip and all blades are drop points design and include elongated lanyard holes.

First up the Pocket Folding Knife. Gerber describe this as ‘an everyday carry (EDC) blade designed to complement a larger, more task- specific hunting knife.’ That’s a good summery because this very useful design measures 4.38” closed and 7.4” open with its 3” blade deployed, yet only weighs 2.5oz.

The slender stainless handle is well matched to the blade and, when closed, the knife slips easily into your pocket where it can be kept secure thanks to the generously sized and detachable steel pocket clip. Dual thumb studs allow for one-handed blade opening, while the otherwise one-side rubber insert handle offers a modest guard and useful thumb serrations on the spine. Add a nicely machined lock/liner/frame lock mechanism, and you’ve got a blade suitable for many routine task.
STURDY

Measuring 5.1”” closed and 8.63” with the 3.63” blade deployed and weighing 7.2oz the Large Sheath Folding Knife is a much more substantial proposition. This sturdy blade uses an elongated thumbhole for one-handed deployment and features a more generous moulded rubber handle that offers the user maximum comfort and gives a very a confident grip.

Again it uses a secure liner lock to keep the blade in position and a well-placed finger choil makes for a useful guard. Serrations on the spine also help give the thumb added purchase when carrying out those heavier duty cutting tasks. This stocky broad bladed folder also comes in its own nylon sheath with belt loop.

Last but not least is the ‘big daddy’ of the trio – the Moment Large Fixed Blade Knife. Although it measures and weighs a tad more than its folding relative, it’s virtually identical to it in all other key areas when the folder version is in its deployed state. The handle around the full tang is more thickset affording an even more assured hold and it comes supplied in a nylon belt sheath. Both of these larger stature blades have useful pommels to give them extra utility.

To sum up, all featured offer what is expected of knifes of this type and with the assurance of a bombproof build quality backed by the Gerber lifetime warranty choosing any won’t disappoint.
