Grangers Cleaner and proofer

‘Bluesign Approved’ as an environmentally responsible product, the water-based Grangers 2 in 1 Cleaner and Proofer is recommended for Gore-tex and all breathable fabrics, and I have had great results on closely woven cotton fabrics, and even Ventile fabric.

The 2 in 1 Cleaner and Proofer is simply used in place of a detergent in a full wash cycle and the garment tumble dried or ironed to activate the proofer. Full instructions are available on line, but basic how-to-use instructions are printed on the bottle.

The cleaning part of the process was very effective, removing grot, grime and ground-in dirt from my jackets, even at 30 degree C while, once ‘set’ with heat, the durable water repellancy of the jacket’s fabric was restored and water ‘beaded’ on the surface to run off. Just like when the jacket was new! If, however, the proofing element was not ‘set’ with heat, then it seemed almost totally ineffectual.

Having my jackets washed and proofed in one wash cycle did save time, effort, energy and water over products requiring separate cycles for washing and proofing. The cleaning was effective and, once set with heat, such as 15 minutes in the tumble drier, the proofing was as good as any reproofer I have come across.

I am quite impressed with Grangers 2 in 1 Cleaner and Proofer for use on outdoor waterproof, and even showerproof items, as it does restore both the cleanliness and weatherresistant performance of fabrics. If only it was an air curing proofer, I would be even more impressed!
