Jack Pyke Fieldman Boots

The new “Fieldman” from Jack Pyke is a tough and comfortable boot that should prove ideal for many outdoorsman’s needs. Made to the same basic design as their popular Hunter’s Boot but without the high leg features, the Fieldman has more of a hiking boot look to it and should have wide appeal.

Flexible Yet Tough

Made from full-grain leather, the uppers feature a medium high leg with a soft, padded, cuff with a flex notch on each side of the tongue to provide a comfortable and natural ankle flexion, but with lateral support from the ankle of the boot.

Right around the boot there is a deep rubber rand, which is highest over the heel cup, to protect the leather no matter how rough the terrain.

The padded leather tongue is of a bellows type to keep out water and debris, and is crossed by the laces that go through four pairs of articulated closed lace rings and 3 pairs of speed hooks, the lowest hooks being set back to help pull your heel into the boot’s heel cup for stability and comfort. 

Dry, Comfortable and Hopefully Odour Free!

The boots are lined with 200g m/s Thinsulate insulation and feature a fully waterproof and breathable “Hydroguard” membrane to keep feet dry and comfortable. To promote healthy feet (and to reduce foot odour) the boots have an “Agion” silver-based anti-microbal treatment. There is, of course, a removable moulded footbed for support and comfort.

Like the Jack Pyke Hunter boots, these Fieldmans are lasted on a curve to give a light ‘rocker’ effect to the boots and this, combined with a moderate sole flex, allow you to maintain a natural rolling gait while still having support for your foot. The outer sole is a branded Vibram Trek rubber unit with an effective lug pattern that gives excellent traction on nearly all terrain, and does not clog too easily.

Made To Last

All this adds up to the Fieldman Boots proving very comfortable and supporting during the whole of the testing I have put them through. The look of the boots, as with the Hunter’s Boots I reviewed previously, has drawn admiring comments, which I truly think they deserve!
