Jack Pyke Mugs Water Bottles & Flasks Drinks Ware

As hunters we doubtless appreciate a drink be it something cold in the summer or hot in the winter. I’d not enter a hide without a thermos full of tea; not just for the refreshment it offers but also it keeps you more alert too. I’ve tried lots of flasks top end to cheap ‘n’ cheerful and they all break, sooner or later. Some of the noted best brands (most expensive) hardly keep a drink warm for more than six hours. So what has Jack Pyke got to offer in this area?

Well built and Practical

To save on repetition all these items on test are robust and well built; most come in three sizes except flasks where you have four. The outer is finished with a non-rust, anti-glare enamelled green ‘smooth touch’ coating. Most basic are the Stainless Steel Mugs; sizes 220, 350 and 450ml, they have an extra wide flat bottom so less likely for them to tip over when placed on a surface and easy to pick up due to their large handle.

The drink bottles (400, 500 and 800ml) also have larger than usual bases. They’re manufactured from aluminium with an internal epoxy coating so you can fill with a soft drink or water and they don’t give a nasty after taste or tarnish.  Access is by a simple, polymer screw cap with O-ring seal for security.  Clever is the detachable metal carabineer, which will allow you to hang it off your gear or out of the way in a vehicle or hide.

Thermally Efficient

The Flasks are the ace in the collection as after testing they showed better heat retention properties than most other makes and are well built too. There are four sizes - 330, 480, 730 and 1000ml. All have aluminium, protected interiors, rated unbreakable! They have wide bases so are more stable when placed on uneven ground. The opening is two inches so bags of access and is closed by a synthetic, screw cap with ridged edges. The cup has a plastic rim so making drinking easier too.

To test efficiency I filled the flask to below the brim with just boiled water and put it outside, it was around +1 degree that night. I checked at two hourly intervals. First time it was as hot as it was when put in, second sip-able, third the water was still very hot. As heat is lost every time you open up I’d say these would certainly keep things hot enough for about eight hours. Easily washable due to the large necks, this is a well built design; considering the price.
