Javelin Superlite Bipod

Javelin Superlite Bipod

Manufacturers are constantly coming up with new ways of supporting a rifle in the field, but few have as much to offer as the new Javelin Super Lite bipod from Spartan Precision Equipment, which made its debut at the British Shooting Show this year. For decades the word “bipod” has been almost synonymous with the Harris Ultralight, a name only justified by comparison with military equivalents, and an item most of us have had digging into our backs at some time or other. It did its job, but ergonomically and aesthetically it left a lot to be desired.

Super Bipod:

The Javelin couldn’t be more different. It’s hard to know where to start: with the neat CNC machined, hard-anodised head? With the slender but super-stiff 3-part, carbon-fibre legs? With the tethered rubber feet that can be slipped off to reveal stainless-steel points for extra grip? With its twist-adjustable cant compensation? With the fact that it can pivot too? Or maybe what matters most is that it weighs only 133 grams; is instantly and silently attached or detached thanks to a super-strong magnetic connector; folds down to fit in your hand (making it genuinely “pocket sized”), and can be used on any rifle fitted with a low-profile Javelin base-plate.

Each base plate is fitted to the stock using a stainless-steel bolt or screw that replaces the forward sling stud, and features a swivel attachment point behind the socket for the bipod. This means you can carry a slung rifle in comfort, only slipping the bipod out of your pocket and onto the rifle when setting up for a shot. It also improves the balance of a rifle already made muzzle heavy by a sound moderator.

Priced at £225 for both the Short (24”) and Long (32”) versions, and with base-plates and Picatinny adapters at £25 each, it’s clearly a premium product.

Also in the pipeline are a set of full-length shooting sticks, and an even lighter, all-carbon-fibre model. The latter is due out in May and will weigh less than 100g. Naturally, it’ll come with an even more “bracing” price tag – but when you’re pausing for breath half way up a mountain in the Caucasus it’s sure to feel like money well spent!
