JSR LF2 Torch

JSR LF2 Torch

As part of my pest control outings I shoot a lot of feral pigeons and starlings (both of which are legal quarry in Scotland). Both of these birds like to hide themselves away in the dark spaces up in the rafters of old farm buildings where there is insufficient light reception for a standard scope to operate and so a light source is needed. A large light with a battery pack is fine for rabbiting but inside farm buildings it is far too cumbersome and the cable from light to battery is always getting snagged on things, and so the only sensible option is a scope mounted tactical light and I happen to have found one that is just right for pest control – and is not too expensive either.

story continues below...

The light I refer to is the JSR Scope Light which is powered by a single 3v battery. This torch measures just 8cm and is as light as a feather. It is operated by a push button on the back of the torch and emits a reasonably tight beam that projects for about 40yds, fully illuminating everything in its path. I have spent good money on tactical lights before that are much more powerful than the JSR torch, and had advanced features like an adjustable beam, but to be honest I did not find them all that useful for hunting around farm buildings, whereas the JSR light, though very simple and straightforward, is very effective in these areas. It enables me to pinpoint the target and bring it down without lighting up the whole surrounding area, and has now become a permanent part of my pest control rig mounted on my .25 BSA Tactical.

Not only is the JSR torch very good at doing its job, it is darn near indestructible. Drop it, bang it or get it soaked with rain and it still just keeps on operating. I am so impressed with this little torch that I carry one in my pocket all the time now that the nights are beginning to close in - it is so light that I don’t even know it is there. I also have a JSR scope torch fitted on the scope I use for lamping, it sits neatly in front of my large lamp and is ideal for such tasks as retrieving shot rabbits. The JSR torch is a very simple but very effective piece of equipment and well worth adding to your kit.

The JSR LF2 Torch costs £19.95 (with mount for 1” body scope) and is available direct from JS Ramsbottom on tel. 0844 8481400 or visit the website at www.jsramsbottom.com
