Kizer V3 Vigor

Kizer V3 Vigor

I must admit that until I received the knife for review, I’d never heard of Kizer knives, even though they’ve been around for quite a while. The knife in question is a very stylish little folder called the V3 Vigor that just looks ‘right’! It’s not too big and not too small and fits the hand well. The grip scales are made from a green G10 material, which is a glass-based epoxy resin laminate, made from layers of fibreglass cloth. Once hardened, the material is incredibly strong and when machined, really shows the contours of the item well, and it looks a little like it has a ‘grain’ to it, rather like wood, which adds extra ‘grippiness’. The scales are fixed to the lightweight stainless inner frame by Torx screws and a hole is drilled at the end for a lanyard. A sprung pocket clip is fitted and it can be reversed if required.

The 3mm thick, 75.9mm (2.99-inches) long VG10 stainless steel, drop point blade is locked via a sprung liner lock mechanism and opening is accomplished by using one of the thumb studs found near the blade’s pivot point. The studs are perfectly positioned so that the user’s thumb can sweep the blade open in one easy movement, with virtually no friction.

The blade is beautifully hollow ground for the majority of the blade’s length but the tip is left slightly thicker for extra strength, it also looks very attractive, which is always nice!

The blade locks open securely and there’s no play at all once in position; it’s as solid as a fixed blade knife and you can’t get better than that! There’s jimping on the rear potion of the spine, which matches with similar grooves on the handle and provide extra grip in use. At 82-grams (27/8-ounces), the V3 is very light, with an overall length of 17½cm (67/8-inches).

From the box, the V3 was very sharp and made mincemeat of fairly hard, dry wood when preparing kindling sticks etc. and retained its edge well. The blade stayed locked solid within the grip and the jimping did its job, supplying extra grip.

The Kizer V3 Vigor is a great little folder that looks and performs very well and at less than £50, it’s a bargain. I look forward to seeing more from this company in the future.
