In its basic form the standard Lansky system consists of a set of three sharpening stones (fine, medium and coarse), guide rods, honing oil, a selectable angle holder and a carrying case. Most people will find that this is perfect for sharpening all their knives to perfection, but for those that want to expand their system, there are lots of special hones and accessories – including mounts and clamps - to make the process even easier on some of the more awkward blades.

To use any of the Lansky sets, a selected stone is simply fixed to a guide rod while the knife is clamped into the holder. The correct angle hole is selected for the type of edge required on the blade, then the stone is drawn over the knife’s edge for a professional sharpening job. The holder is instantly reversible, so that both sides of the blade can be honed equally. Each kit carries full instructions on choosing the right edge angle for any given purpose, and how to set up the system to achieve the best results.

The Lansky Standard system consists of three hones, honing oil, guide rods, knife clamp (with angle selector), all in an ABS storage and transport case. The price is £25.  The Lansky Universal system has an additional medium serrated hone – for your serrated blades – and costs £34. The Lansky Professional System contains all of the above plus an ultrafine hone, and is priced at £43.  If you want something really special, there’s the Lansky Arkansas System and the Lansky Diamond Systems.

To make the sharpening process even easier, Lansky offer separate mounts; the Pedestal Mount (ABS fixed) at £5, the Universal Mount (aluminium fixed) at £12 or the Super C-Clamp mount – which temporarily mounts the system to any work surface for £16.
