Leapers Accushot 8 – 32 X 56IR EZ-TAP Scope

Leapers Accushot 8 – 32 X 56IR EZ-TAP Scope

The Leapers Accushot 8 – 32 X 56IR EZ-TAP is quite a mouthful but then again it’s quite some scope and comes as a comprehensive package. This includes flip-up lens covers, 4” sunshade, cleaning cloth and 2 X CR2032 3V Lithium batteries and instruction manual. The lenses are EBCO95 coated and give a bright and crystal clear view right to the periphery. The reticule is Mil-Dot in the 1st focal plane meaning that at any power setting the Milradian measurement is constant. For airgunners this is less about rangefinding and more about a series of consistent aim points that can be used for all practical ranges. The body tube is 30mm and the big, 56mm objective sucks in a lot of light, but what’s EZ-TAP IR?

Under Pressure

Well it’s the reticule illumination system, which is a bit different when compared to the standard, rotary drum rheostat. Just behind the battery compartment are two pressure pads, the one on the left is marked G (green) and the other is R (red) indicating the twin colour illumination options. This red/green option is becoming more common these days and it has it’s potential advantages as some say the different colours tend to work better in different lighting conditions and backgrounds.

Selecting a colour is easy; just press the appropriate pad and it will come on at full power, subsequent operations will drop it down to minimum (seven in all). Pressing both buttons together turns it off. This system is precise and shows the finest and lowest setting of any illuminated reticle I’ve used. At minimum it’s so fine as to be barely visible and only on the last throws of dusk will you see it. An absolutely superb facility and one that’s certainly going to prove useful for hunting in low light conditions.

Comprehensive Range

story continues below...

Though in this spec it’s aimed at the FT market there is a more hunter friendly 3 – 12 X 44IR format in what otherwise is a very comprehensive range of non EZ-TAP SWAT scopes.

Control-wise the scope has a side parallax drum on the left of the saddle and 80 and 100mm optional side wheels are available to refine the range finding process. Which for FT is essential as the markings on the integral dial are too closely spaced to be useful? I found these pre-marked ranges (10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 500-yds & 8) well calibrated.

Turrets are surprisingly low profile and un-capped but can be locked by wheels that sit below the drums. A quarter turn anti clockwise frees them with the reverse movement locking them solidly in position. Click values are 1/8 MOA @ 100-yards, with 90 in elevation and 72 in windage. Like wise they offer 6 ½ and 9 full turns accordingly.

Unfortunately there are no stadia lines on either of the turrets. Without these, if you want to dial-in for range you have no reminder of where you are. So you’ll have to count the clicks but personally I never use BDC and in fairness the scope doesn’t claim to have this feature.

This is a giant amongst scopes in this price bracket considering features and particularly the highly desirable EZ-TAP facility. A model that easily traverses disciplines, even into .177HMR territory and comes out the other side delivering the goods and standing up to the rigours it will be subjected to in the field.

Yep, in my opinion the SWAT range of scopes have come on in leaps and bounds from the similar one’s we saw ‘back in the day…’
