Lenspen Hunter Pro kit

If you shoot a scoped rifle and who doesn’t these days; equal care and attention should be lavished on your optics as your gun. As a long term glasses wearer I am only too aware of this, as if your vision is blurred you’re hardly going to be performing at 100%, be it shooting V-bulls or rolling over deer!

For glass, most I imagine just use a bit of cloth to wipe away the dirt, but there is a professional system from a company called Lenspen, which is something I have been using for a few years. However the importers – Newpro UK Ltd sent me their Hunter Pro Kit that covers it all in one handy package.

The Brush Off

The Lenspen is a clever design that looks like a pen even down to the pocket clip. On the side is a sliding green catch that when pushed up deploys a soft brush that you use to clean away debris/dust off the lens surface. With that done retract it and turn to the other end and remove the cap to expose a soft cup covered with a non-liquid, cleaning compound. This is used to polish the glass. The cover cap has a foam pad inside impregnated with the compound so you can re-charge the cup as required.

Lenspens come in a number of sizes and the Hunter Pro Kit holds two standard units for bigger jobs and their compact MiniPro II version, which is good for smaller areas. These are contained in a nylon, zippered pouch with belt loop. Also included is their MicroKlear deluxe, ultrafibre cleaning cloth, which absorbs dirt and oily films that are on the glass. This is soft and safe to use and can be washed and re-used with confidence. Backing this up is a de-misting (fog-off) cloth.

Carry It, Use It!

This applies a special anti-fogging film to the lens that reduces the build up of vapour and moisture that would otherwise impair vision and clarity. It’s recommended that if you do apply this to go through the basic cleaning procedure first – brush, wipe etc. This cloth comes in a re-sealable, plastic pouch to preserve the compound it’s impregnated with so extending its working life.

Like I said I always carry a Lenspen in my Eagle cheek piece bag, which I fit to all my hunting rifles and for a quick clean up job it’s hard to beat. However the full Pro Kit really extends the ability to keep your scope, binocular and even glasses lenses crystal clear and fog free. The brush is also good for removing debris from turrets, magnification rings and side focus drums etc.
