Levelling the reticle on a rifle is a hotly debated subject, with many opinions and preferences for how to do it and how to align it, but the most technical of shooters usually argue it is better for the lower six o’clock stadia of the reticle (and elevation travel) to run directly down and effectively through the centreline of the bore. The ScopeSet is designed to simplify this operation and on some rifles, seeing the bore can be very difficult, so this tool is even more beneficial. Essentially, the tool fastens to your scope’s objective bell and the V shape of both this and the vertical slide, place the tool in precise alignment to the bore and the scope tube. When this is set up and tightened, a bubble on the top allows the rifle to be positioned so that this ‘theoretical line’ is truly vertical and a matched bubble is supplied to sit atop the scope’s elevation dial-cap or turret, so that before you tighten the tube in place when mounting, you can check to make sure the whole setup is ‘true’ to within half a degree. The perfectionists among us may say that the bore line is not truly central with a barrel’s external profile or that the reticle may not be perfectly set within the scope’s erector tube but given the number of rifles seen set up somewhat ‘drunk’, this is a fantastic concept, that will work with nearly all rifle/ scope combinations.
