The concept is simple enough: cartridges are dropped nose first into a hollow tube worn as a sash around your shoulder, and retained by a sprung latch which also holds the ends of the tube, a finger’s width apart. To release a pair of cartridges into his hand, the shooter merely has to depress the plunger on the latch with his thumb, blocking off either tube with a finger if he wants just one. With traditional materials, cartridges would catch in the tube, the tube might come adrift from the latch mechanism or the latch itself would corrode, but by using high-tech modern sailcloth, bonding compounds and Teflon coatings these problems are solved and the device functions as it was always intended to. At £100, the Monkey Loader isn’t cheap, but it is more comfortable to wear than a cartridge belt, and will take 12, 16 or 20-bore cartridges of all lengths, and comes in a choice of 5 sizes and two colours; forest green and loden.
