Myrull Jacket

The Myrull Jacket from Bergans of Norway is a superbly warm and comfortable mid or outer layer with a host of useful features and is made from Tecno Wool, a blend of 75% Virgin Wool, 25% Polyester, that has the performance advantages of wool with the advantages of polyester reinforcing for durability.

Wool has long been recognised as having many properties that make it ideal for outdoor wear.  It traps air well, regulates body temperature very well, moves moisture away from the body, is naturally anti-bacterial and can absorb a lot of water before feeling wet, and can still keep you warm when it is wet. One of the drawbacks is that it can lose its shape with wear and can abrade with excessive wear.

The combination of Virgin Wool with Polyester maintains the performance and helps avoid the weaknesses of wool, and Tecno Wool is proving a great fabric for outdoor wear needs.

Features

The Myrull Jacket has many other features that make it a great garment including; a high, snug collar with a Lycra edge binding, lined with micro fleece (for the protection of those who find wool itchy), a full-length zip front opening with an extended puller, sleeves which have articulated elbows and extended Lycra bound cuffs and thumb holes so they can be worn as wrist protector mittens, four external and two internal pockets and a Lycra bound hem with an extended back.

All four pockets have zip closures with covers and extended pullers as well as polyester mesh pocket bags. The twin chest pockets have vertical zip openings and feature internal and external slots to allow access for radio antenna and headphone cables etc to go with the external shoulder-mounted antenna loops and internal elastic cable guide loops to make these pockets ideal for mobile phones, two-way radios or music systems,.  The chest pockets measure about 14cm x 18cm while the lower pockets, which have slightly slanted, near vertical openings, are approx 20cm x 27cm.  The pocket bags of the lower pockets are cunningly sewn to form two internal open-topped pockets. 

Mid or Outer Layer

The Myrull Jacket is mid weight at about 650g. I have worn it as both a mid-layer for warmth under a protective layer, and as an outer layer in calm, dry conditions, and find it superbly warm and cosy across a range of activities.

I am a firm believer in the benefits of wool and, with the Myrull Jacket design, Bergans have combined these with the advantages of carefully employed synthetics and good design. The Myrull proved effective, comfortable and warm to wear, while being machine washable and flat drying.
