Nuprol Ultra Flat Paint

Nuprol Ultra Flat Paint

I have to admit that I’ve been closely watching what WE Airsoft Europe have been up to with their own range of excellent NUPROL accessories, and to date have been very impressed. I’ve seen them launch, in the very recent past, their own batteries, maintenance kit, mesh goggles, and BBs, and I’m in the very privileged position of knowing that there is far more to come!

One of the easiest ways I know of to really personalise your RIF, to make it unique to you and you alone is to paint it. “Paint it?” I hear you ask. Yes, and I don’t mean taking the Dulux to it!

There are many reference pictures both on page and online that show modern military firearms that have been painted to ‘blend in’ with their theatre of operations. Most airsofters I know will go to some quite extreme lengths to get the camouflage just so; in fact one chap locally even buried his newly created sniper Ghillie Suit in the mid for a week just to tale the ‘new’ edge off it! The fact is though, that you can spend as much money as you like on camo clothing and gear, but ultimately you are left with a long, angular black thing in your hands – your rifle or carbine. In an effort to complete an overall camouflage effect the solution to this has been to use specialist matte paint sprays.

Paint It Anything But Black

story continues below...

When I lived in the USA this simply meant a quick trip to Walmart where I could pick up a certain American brand for less than five bucks a can, but when I returned to the UK said brand was retailing for far more, if you could actually find it in stock anywhere! Recently an automotive retailer spotted the gap in the UK market and started producing their own matte spray paints, but again not every branch stocked it and they wouldn’t ship! Luckily for us, the team at WE Airsoft Europe also spotted the gap and being airsofters themselves set about doing something about the situation.

And so it was that Ultra Flat Paints (UFPs) in tan, brown, olive, and black became a part of their ever expanding line-up.

Now I’ve used most of the specialist paint brands over the years and I’m going to just say this straight out: NUPROL UFPs are as good, if not better, than all of them! All four colours come in 450ml cans so you get a lot of paint for your money; and at just £7.99 a can that’s the same price the auto dealer is charging for a 300ml can!

Whether you choose to use a stencil for a particular pattern (you’ll find these being passed around online), you go freehand, or you use the old scrim net/ snakeskin approach, the new NUPROL paints are very, very effective. The key to getting a paint job right is to follow the drying time instructions clearly stated on the can, apply the paint sparingly, and build up thin layers rather than just blasting. As you come to the final stages you are going to put on less and less paint to get a nice ‘blend’, and the NUPROL paint was very effective in this respect.

So my advice if you fancy giving your beloved RIF that special finish is to invest in some NUPROL UFP. It’s a great product and superb value for money too!
