Practical Buck

Buck’s latest tactical-type folder – the B89 SBMF - would seem well suited for those looking for a tough and no nonsense utility blade. Far from pretty, the B89 shows an ergonomic/utilitarian style. The frame is angular and shows an open construction, which will reduce the build-up of debris that can lodge inside. The olive green scales are chequered and made from a glass-reinforced nylon, which offers a well contoured shape that fills the hand nicely. Locking is by an integral liner system and a reversible clothing clip gives a point-up carry, which means fast and easy deployment.

The 3.5”, hollow ground blade is made from blacked, 420HC steel, which gives a pleasing subdued look that compliments the green handle nicely. The shape is a wide drop point with a finger choil and oblong cut-out near the hinge point to allow one-handed operation. Open the B89 measures 8.13”, closed 4.65” and it weighs 4.9 oz. There are three colour options on the handles – black, olive green and coyote brown.

With an adjustable hinge pin to take up wear the Buck B89 SBMF has the feel of a serious piece of equipment.
