Jim Wagner came to prominence for his ‘Reality Based’ martial art self defence system which he teaches to police, military and security personnel around the world. In the knife-making world he is famous for his tactical models, but in this review we have something quite different – a rescue knife.
The black 440C stainless steel blade is black has a deep bellied recurve design with a 1.5” serrated section at the base and a plain grind on the remaining 2.5” cutting edge. Just below the spine the words ‘Jim Wagner’ over ‘Reality Based Blade’ is picked out in matt silver. The spine has a raised hump with line hole at the base, this acts as a rudimentary yet effective guard when the knife is open. Immediately in front of this feature is an ambidextrous easy ‘one hand opening’ aid in the form of a milled edged disc. Towards the point the 3mm thick steel of the spine is reduced with a false edge as it curves down to form the blade’s tip. In the open position the blade is securely held by a back lock.
The handle scales are made from black fibre glass reinforced nylon with finger grooves and textured panels for a good grip. The blade lock release is mid-positioned, half way along the back of the handle. At the end of the handle there is a lanyard hole and a clothing/pocket clip which is held in place by a conical window breaking tip. This latter feature can be replaced with a short round ‘top hat’ tip using a tool provided.
The Rescue Recurve is another fine addition to the Boker Plus range and should prove popular with military, emergency services and law enforcement personnel.
