Rowan accessories for HW100

We’ve featured so many clever products from Rowan Engineering. I’m sure by now airgunners will either own some or quite frankly wonder what they’ll come up with next. I suppose it was inevitable twin brothers Derek and Dave Rose who co-own this forward thinking airgun customhouse would soon turn their attention to the Weihrauch HW100. When they sent me a ‘bag of bits’ I was a bit bemused thinking how anyone can make this superb PCP better. Then a note with the packaging said, “Consider the accuracy potential of the air rifle when you fit these parts, then get back to us and be honest in your views. Let us know if we are barking up the wrong tree and have chosen a rifle that can’t be made to perform just that tad better.”

AREAS FOR ATTENTION

Understandably and in my view they thankfully addressed the trigger and their standard adjustable mechanism with blade they make for many other brands complete with shoe will for many be the unit of choice. All are CNC machined in aluminium and brass. All trigger kits come with a black anodised aluminium base mount match style straight drop down ‘spigot’ with the shoe of choice. The blade (spigot) has 10mm forwards and backward adjustment with full rotational setting of the shoe whith two height settings.

Now the barrel bands. There’s a standard air reservoir support-type with upper barrel band and an air reservoir support set for stock fitting. This allows the barrel to be fully free floating. Both have been pre-drilled on the underside to accept their stainless steel sling swivel stud – obviously for attaching a sling or bipod, not forgetting securing the metalwork at this position

The bands are going to be very much up to personal preference. I tried the non-barrel band and didn’t feel as a hunter it was for me! The reason being the support of a barrel, especially with a substantial silencer fitted is to me one less thing to worry about should I ‘catch’ or knock the front of the rifle action as I’m moving around. In fact I’ve found myself moving away from free-floating barrels - purely a personal choice as I’m now finding the less I can ‘ding’ the less I will have to check zero for my own piece of mind.

NO BRAINER!

Now the final part is a no-brainer and every HW100 owner I feel should get one. It’s a very clever Manometer cover. Granted it doesn’t sound that exciting but I do know a few HW owners who’ve cracked the glass on the front-mounted air gauge out of clumsiness, rather than it being a weak spot – as it isn’t. But, this clever, push-on aluminium cover simply slips over the front and is held in position with an ‘O’-ring seal. It not only protects the gauge but reduces reflections that the glass on an air gauge could give off. The slot in the front is cleverly machined so when fitted you can still check the needle position without having to remove it.  There’s also a Hamster and air stripper available.
