SOG Multi tool EOD

Multi tools now come in a variety of shapes and sizes, for many of them their looks as important as their integrated abilities.

But for SOG and their Power Assist Black Oxide Explosive Ordnance Disposal or EOD, its sheer hardcore ability that counts along with the versatility of use and convenience. Equally, the EOD is the first multi tool of its type to incorporate opening assistance giving the EOD genuine one-handed deployment capabilities.

Certainly not one of the prettiest multi tools you’ll ever hold, the moment you handle the EOD you know it means business. Contained within a ballistic nylon pouch complete with a strong belt clip, the black oxide coated EOD weighs in at just over 9oz, is 4¾” long when folded, 7” long when open and ½” wide. With a metric and imperial ruler running along one side neatly contained within the handles are straight and serrated blades that come with power assist which means they spring partially into position when selected. Elsewhere there’s the usual small chisel, two file surfaces, can and bottle opener, screwdrivers and an awl - all of which lock into position courtesy of integral back locks and an independent safety catch.

Compound Leverage

Incredibly strong and sharp the EOD’s party piece are what SOG refer to as their Compound Leverage geared pliers that act as normal pliers, hard wire cutters, a C4 punch and a ballistic cap crimper. Able to be used in the conventional or inverted position, a small system of gears around the pivot point not only make the opening of the EOD effortless, SOG’s claims of one-handed deployment an actuality, they double the user’s gripping power. Even when fully opened the EOD displays not the merest hint of flex or bend meaning the person working with the EOD can place their trust in the tool performing it should.

Priced at £103-69p, the price of SOG’s Multi Tool EOD certainly isn’t out of it and whilst it might not be the most attractive of its type to look at, once you’ve held one and used one you’ll be convinced.
