Sportsmatch ATP72

Sportsmatch UK has recently added yet another set of mounts to their extensive range. Named the AT P72, these 30mm rings are designed for clamping on Picatinny/Weaver type rails and are adjustable for height and angle. Why should this be? In the past if you run out of elevation on your scope you could get bases with a degree of downwards angle in them, which means you have to lift the scope up more to get a sight picture. This effectively adds correction, which can then be fine-tuned on the elevation drum, as it has added to the adjustment now available.

Practical Solution

But some guns don’t offer MOAadjusted rails, or shooters don’t want to add them, so the AT P72s offer a practical solution. With the mounts fitted onto the rail and the scope in place as normal, the locking bolts (on both rings) are slackened off and the small Allen key adjuster below them is turned in or out. This lifts or drops the ring and provided both are free to move, will also set the correct angle between the two. All being accomplished with no strain on the scope tube, the result will be the down angle you require.

Optically Centred

On the opposite side of each mount is a single, large locking bolt making attachment and removal quick and easy. They will allow the scope to be optically centred on its BDC (bullet drop correction) turret by setting a basic impact point using the mount adjusters, then making fine adjustments with the turret. Each mount gives 1/16th of height adjustment (just over 1mm). This can be useful when using a scope/ rifle combination that has `run out` of adjustment at either end of its BDC for whatever reason.

I have used an 11mm dovetail version of these mounts for some years and they have solved any scope height adjustment problems that I have come across. Now they can be utilised on Weaver-type bases to increase scope set up options. Offered only for 30mm body tubes at the moment, they should be available at your local gunshop for around.
