Thatchreed Web-tex Range

Thatchreed Web-tex Range

Web-tex are the military division of Thatchreed, so it’s hardly surprising that the Sniper Case (£65) should be so named and of such high specification. Manufactured from 1000 denier waterproof Cordura the case measures 49” long by 13” at its widest point and approximately 2” thick when empty due to the generous internal padding. So whatever size of rifle/scope combo is placed inside doesn’t move around, there’s an external adjustable ABS clip fasten cross strap to cinch the case inwards to secure the rifle once inside. The gun case fastens with a rustproof double zip but only opens the rear half of the case. Some favour this design as the rifle can be slipped inside knowing the muzzle end is going into a captive enclosed padded area and it’s a quick to use system for accessing or putting away your rifle for transit.

External stowage is taken care of by one 13” X 12” large pouch type pocket at the rear, with two smaller ‘magazine holder’ type pockets at the mid section. There’s also a large zip fasten pocket that runs from where the smaller pockets end to the muzzle section. Carrying options are a mid position single heavy duty canvas webbing, or a single carry handle, or an adjustable, detachable heavy duty canvas webbing shoulder strap and a full rucksack style carrying harness. The harness has well padded shoulder straps over the heavy duty canvas webbing, is fully adjustable and has a sternum strap. This is designed so the case when worn in this way will be facing muzzle end up.

For build quality and carrying options the Sniper case proves to be practical and well designed. If DPM camo isn’t you’re thing then you’ll be pleased to note it’s also available in Olive Green or Black.

The Warriors

story continues below...

Next up are a trio of utility lights, and like the Sniper case they easily cross over for sporting/civilian use.

To save on repetition all three lights come with batteries supplied. Unfortunately no lumen or LED wattage is given in the specifications so where applicable I’ll guestimate range of beams.

The Warrior headtorch (£12.75) has a single adjustable elasticated headband but is also powered by 3 X AAA batteries housed in the body measuring 2 ½” wide X 1 ½” X 1 ½”. The layout of the ‘single’ light is simple yet clever in design. It only has what is described as a ‘wide angle, high output LED bulb’, this is set to the right with an ingenious slide over red filter. When the filter isn’t needed it can be ‘moved’ over to the left to slide ‘inside’ to be protected by the outer front casing of the lamp head. It has the same ratchet tilting facility as the previous model but one single top mounted pressure button switch accesses 3-modes of ‘standard’, ‘boost’ and ‘emergency flashing’. Standard casts a wide beam to over 25-yds while ‘boost’ easily doubles that range. When slid over, the red filter is very effective and has no overspill.
The 3 Function LED Headtorch (£15.95) doesn’t have the Warrior denotation but due to the quality of this light I’d have thought it would have been top of the range. The lamp head has a familiar build and LED design layout measuring 2 ¾” at its widest point by 2” X 2.” Powered by 3 X AAA batteries housed in the lamp head casing, it features an adjustable elasticated headband and adjustable overstrap to keep the unit firmly in position. The lamp head has a strong, secure ratchet action tilt facility. The 3 light modes it offers are accessed by a rubberised pressure switch on the right of the main body. Switching on first brings on the three red LED’s below the main circular lamp itself. The main light features eight super-bright white LED’s. The second push of the switch turns the central white LED on for close range work giving a non harsh beam out to 15-yds while the next turns on all white LED’s to easily illuminate an area out to 75-yds!

While the headtorches have ABS casings the Warrior LED Torch (£9.50) has a lightweight aluminium body. The 3 X AAA batteries housed inside power 9 high output LED’s that can cast a tight beam over 60-yds. It only has an on/off function using the rear mounted rubberised push button switch. As its recessed there’s little chance of it being switched on inadvertently while in your pocket. It also has an easily detachable hand lanyard attached by a split ring at the rear but due to its small size can’t be worn if you want to operate the torch switch with the thumb of your same hand.

All three torches offer amazing value for money considering the performance and should give many seasons of use.
