Trinity Force 1-4x24/micro red dot

Trinity Force 1-4x24/micro red dot

These days many more shooters are appreciating the advantages of a low power variable scope; certainly in the world of Action-type shooting. With 22 military look-a-likes ranges are short so something offering 1-4 or 1.5-6x24 is ideal. These specs transfer over nicely for Service Rifle events and similar. Choice in this area has grown massively in the last few years so I was keen to see what the new Trinity Force 1-4x 24 E had to offer.

CHINESE; WHAT ELSE?

The E is unsurprisingly made in China, but then again so are most optics in this price bracket and quality and features are good as we have come to expect from the PRC these days! The build shows a one-piece, straight-walled 30mm body tube, at the back is a fastfocus eyepiece and big, ridged magnification ring marked in whole and half values. Flip-up lens caps are fitted and most impressive is it comes with a one-piece, twin-lever, QD Picatinny mount.

Turrets are medium-height hunter-types under screw-off caps and offer ½ MOA clicks @ 100 yards, I assume this last bit as it does not say. The drum is divided into 15 x 2” segments each offering four individual clicks to give an average of 30” per turn and surprising 5-full rotations. Turret markings are very small, but then again this is not the sort of optic you will be counting clicks with! The reticule which is in the second focal plane (SFP) is the old-style, round, 4-dots per arm Mil-Dot and shows a crisp mid-width grid, big enough to see easily but not thick. This is what I would use to adjust range and just work out my fall of shot in Mils – simples.

LIT THREE WAYS FROM CHRISTMAS!

On the left of the saddle is the rheostat drum, which offers three colours – red, green and blue, with three levels on each and a switch off position inbetween. Here the central section of the ret is lit and though I’m no fan of this over illumination the colours are clean and do not distort the view or haze the reticule and also work surprisingly well in bright light!

The one-piece base is nice and shows a dog leg shape that places the scope well forward so ideal for flat top ARs and similar. It locks by two levers, which are adjustable by rotary, plunger-retained wheels on the opposite side. So far so good, now the final icing on the cake - a micro red dot similar to the SHIELD design. A Picatinny railed top ring is included as well as a spare plain one so you can fit it or not as you please. The build offers an ON/OFF switch at the rear, plastic sight cover and is adjustable via Allen screws.

3-GUN MINDED

The Trinity was built with 3-Gun competition in mind hence this add-on sight. The dot is not intensity-adjustable and comes on at full and its shape is ragged and far from round and in certain conditions could obscure rather than enhance your aim point! But saying that the whole package is a bargain at sub-£150 and you get a half decent scope and a competent QD mount thrown in along with spare battery and Allen keys for fitting/ adjustment. I don’t suppose the red dot is that expensive, more attractive is the fact you have the Picatinny base to fit something better if you want a dot over scope combo, which can be useful at times. Saying that you can also opt for no dot, which drops the price even more!

I tried the Trinity on my S&W M&P 15-22, SGC Speedmaster AR15A2 (223 Rem) and the new Patriot Ordnance Factory ReVolt 308 straight-pull AR10 type. It worked very well with no issues with recoil effect with the larger calibre! OK this is no Leupold 1-8 or a Vortex Razor 1-6x24, but neither is it at that sort of money. I think it will be most appreciated in the UK by the hosts of 22 rimfire military look-a-like shooters as it looks the part and does the business.
