PELLET TEST - Bisley Long Range Gold Pellets

The Bisley range of pellets has a fine reputation, but perhaps the ace in the pack are the Bisley Long Range Gold (LRG) pellets, which have made quite a name for themselves in outdoor airgun competition. We know it has been overstated, but the traditional dome head and waisted hollow skirt shuttlecock design still reigns supreme, so it’s no surprise that the LRG follows this route. That hollowed-out body, yet fairly solid head configuration, is part of the winning formula, but as with any quality airgun pellet, consistency of formation and weight are of paramount importance.
The LRGs are made in Germany, which is always a bonus where pellets are concerned, and at 7.56-grains in .177, this is a medium-weight design, ideal in spring-powered airguns in particular, and PCPs. Specified as having “exceptional aerodynamic design for high impact and penetration”, the pellet’s fairly flat trajectory also finds favour among serious shooters that wish to gain a technical edge, whether in FT or Hunter Field Target shooting, or hunters that wish to maximise performance. These pellets have an alloy mix and lubrication, to minimise fouling in the barrel. There’s plenty of luck with individual guns and a particular barrel in that regard, but one thing’s for sure – the LRGs are a serious option and a contender for any quality pellet shortlist.
