Qiang Yuan Sports manufactures pellets in China and has caused quite a stir in competition, with many shooters finding they are a serious rival to established leading manufacturers such as JSB. Their flat-headed wadcutter-style pellets have won a stream of medals in indoor competitions around the globe, so it was inevitable that domeheaded designs would eventually filter through into Field Target and Hunter Field Target circles. Unsurprisingly, the dome-headed Qiang Yuan Sports Diabolo Pellets look quite similar to several of their rivals (JSB/ Air Arms Diabolo), since these dominate the outdoor disciplines. However, look closer and there are small differences. The head on the new pellet is longer and more curved, whilst the internal profile is hollowed out further. A higher antimony content means that they are slighter harder than some rivals, but the upside is that hardness means less deformation and damage in transit, for example. Consistency of weight during testing has been impressive, but the average measured weight has often been fractionally higher than the stated weight - 8.6 or 8.7-grains against 8.48-grains on the tin. This minor detail apart, quality and method of production are clearly getting results, and the QYS brand looks set to continue its path to establishing itself as a top flight pellet, whether for hunting or competition.
