Kuskokwin Signature Hunter

Designed by hunter Russ Kommer for CRKT - Columbia River Knife and Tool – the Kuskokwin Signature Hunter offers a functional, affordable knife that is the ultimate outdoor companion. Russ field tests all the prototypes of his knives in the Alaskan wilderness, and if they don’t feel right, or won’t do what they are designed to do properly, then they are not put into production. This knife passed the designer’s test and was named after the Alaskan mountain ranges.

The Signature Hunters are simple classic fixed blades of 1.4116 stainless steel, high hollow ground and mirror polished to minimize staining and corrosion and to give less resistance while skinning. Construction is full-tang for maximum strength. This particular model - the Kuskokwin - is a full-bellied skinner with a gut hook. When you have big animals to dress out, this is the knife to take along.

The blade has friction grooves (jimping) on the spine and a deep finger choil just before the minimal guard. The wooden scales are held in place with stainless steel rivets, and each knife has a slot at the butt with a hand-tied leather fob.

Each Signature Hunter comes with a fitted leather sheath. Like the finest custom sheaths, they are made from a single piece of 7- to 8-ounce tooled leather, with the CRKT logo, with stitched and burnished edges.

A good general hunting knife without being too big, the Kuskokwin Signature Hunter is a good buy at just under £60.
