Trento Hunter 100 Knife

Trento Hunter 100 Knife

I recently met up with Dave Mills of X-Calibre, and he informed me that he had some more knives in from Trento, the Italian knife brand that the company imports. He let me take away a couple of examples for review and I’ve been impressed…!

Hunter 100

First up is a neat little folder. The Trento Hunter has a 420 C stainless steel hollow ground blade that is a usable 70mm long and the overall length is 170mm when open. A thumb nick is incorporated into the left of the blade for ease of opening; when opened fully, the blade is securely locked into position. To close the blade, the lock bar, positioned towards the base of the grip, is depressed and the blade swung shut.

The dark hardwood handle scales are attached using brass rivets and it’s an attractive, general purpose little pocket knife but as it locks, it is worth bearing in mind when and where you carry it. The Trento Hunter only weighs 3¼-ounces, or 90-grams, so you won’t notice it until you need it; a Velcro-fastened nylon pouch is included, so it can be carried on a belt instead of your pocket. The blade came very sharp and held an edge pretty well. At £15.95, it’s very good value.

Hunter 600

The Trento Hunter 600 is a fixed blade knife and is definitely a robust looking item with a full tang build, in that the 420C stainless blade carries on into the grip for its full width. The hollow ground blade is 120mm long (or 4¾-inches in old money) and has a false edge on top; overall length is 240mm, or 9½-inches. The grip has attractively contoured, smooth grey laminated wood scales riveted to the tang and subtle finger grooves for a secure grip. A stainless guard is welded to the blade, so it’s a sturdy design and your hand is safe during hard work. The knife comes in a wooden presentation case and a nylon belt sheath with a press-stud fastened retainer. In use, the knife kept its edge well and at £55, it’s another bargain from this emerging brand. The Hunter 600 could be used for Bushcrafting tasks, preparing game etc. and I’m sure it would cope well with any task sent its way.
