Jack Pyke Argyll & Galbraith Smocks in DigiCam Camo

Jack Pyke Argyll & Galbraith Smocks in DigiCam Camo

Jack Pyke has recently expanded the range of clothing that they offer in their own DigiCam pattern, and many will be pleased to note this includes the Argyll and Galbraith smocks.

Deluxe model

The Argyll is classed by the company as the deluxe version of the two, while the other is a more standard option for those who are looking for a more traditional style smock. Both follow the head-over design associated with these garments and both use a similar combination of materials in the build. However, when it comes to overall layout and features, they differ.

On initial inspection, the Argyle is obviously a very high-quality and well-featured item. The tough 3-layer build consists of a 100% polyester brushed tricot outer and a laminated Breatha-Tex waterproof membrane. There is also a mesh inner to ensure that you don’t feel damp or clammy. It shows a generous ¾ length design and features an extra length, baffled, rain-proof front neck zip with press stud storm flap. There is also a high stand-up collar and a well-sized removable hood with a toggle-fastened drawstring and an adjustable peak.

For storage, the Argyll has 2x upper crossover pockets and 2x lower angled pockets, all with waterproof zips. It is here that the Argyll breaks with traditional smock design, as it excludes the use of a single front chest pocket and the pockets used in the build are deep and have a soft lining for comfort.

The generous cut of the garment makes it very unrestrictive when worn, easy to put on/off and of course, very comfortable. Neoprene inner cuff bands provide protection from the elements, plus the adjustable outer Velcro cuff straps also protect wearers from water ingress. To tailor the garment to your build, there’s a strong drawstring with outer toggle adjustment just above waist height.

The 3/4 length of this smock ensures that the upper legs are fully protected from the elements, as rain simply runs off, even when kneeling or seated. For those looking for a special and unique design of smock with the company’s now recognised ‘Wind Blocker’ designation (for obvious reasons), this is the one I highly recommend.

Smaller but highly protective

The Galbraith shows a medium length and traditional design. There is an integral hood with toggle adjusters, a baffled neck zip with an over flap, and adjustable wrist cuffs. Although it uses a similar build to its relative, it feels far lighter by way of the outer material’s thickness and therefore has lower thermal properties.

For storage, it features a traditional large front pocket with waterproof zip and cover, and although the garment’s length is more conservative, it still manages to include 2x angled lower pockets (with weatherproof zips). The lower hemline also includes a toggle adjust drawstring. All zips on both garments have cloth pull assists.
