Ridgeline Clothing is generally best known for their high-quality jackets, trousers and particularly their smocks, but they’ve also slowly introduced footwear into their roster. In fact, the company has decided to give their Warrior EXP boot a facelift, resulting in what could be termed a ‘next generation’ version; the Warrior Hi-Top.
The Hi-Tops are built to an extremely high standard. This is shown by way of the very rugged, well-known brand name soles plus the amount of extra padding and/or protection given at key areas. Measuring 10” at the front and dropping to 8” at the rear, the boot is mainly manufactured from full-grain Nubuck leather. To ensure total weatherproofing, a Hydro Guard membrane is incorporated into the build as well as a very generous 200- gram Thinsulate lining. These features ensure the wearer’s feet are kept warm and dry in even the most inclement weather whilst providing breathability and comfort.
The speed lacing system is designed to perfectly compliment a boot of this height and build. All lace retainers are metal and have been treated to be fully weather resistant. These include four pairs of captive eyelets and a further four pairs of open hasptype retainers. There’s also a lace guide/lace retainer hasp set approximately halfway up the generously padded tongue. At the point they are riveted to the boot, the captive lace retainers are also hinged. This allows them to move freely inwards and/or outwards, so when the laces are tightened, they draw the boot equally and evenly around the lower section (instep) of the foot. They also enable the tension of the laces to relax more efficiently when the boots are untied. Coupled with the open hasp speed retainers, the wearer can quickly and easily get in and out of the boots.
The rugged build of the boot follows on down to include a very generous tough rubber rand. This is configured to give extra all-round protection, including the toe and where it raises slightly at the rear for heel protection. Midway up the boot from this is a well-positioned flex panel to offer even more wearer comfort.
The Vibram HyperGrip sole features multi-direction traction lugs to give a high level of traction on a wide variety of terrain. It also now has a self-cleaning rubber outsole with moulded PU mid-sole technology.
These minor and major alterations are a credit to the manufacturers and certainly elevate the boot to a prime position for those looking for footwear of this kind.
The Ridgeline Warrior Hi-Top hunting boots have a much more forgiving nature than the original models, by way of balancing strength with durability. The twin ribbed, wellpadded collar affords extra wearer comfort, whilst the superior speed lacing system is a huge asset. They’re extremely hard wearing, feature a very solid, easy to clean outsole and give a high level of protection from both terrain and the harshest of weather.
