At the risk of stating the obvious, clothing is quite easy to categorise, especially as we all know what constitutes an outdoor jacket as we do the requirements for suitable outdoor trousers. However, when it comes to shirts and pullovers (not including fleeces) it’s very much a case of ‘a jumper is a jumper’ you could say or pullover! Okay, a tad sarcastic, but shirts and pullovers do get overlooked.
Some see them purely as casual wear and more often than not in the outdoor clothing industry, it can also be a case of, they conform to what is deemed the traditional country look. While Jack Pyke certainly has many garments that fit this bill, the Ashcombe range of pullovers breaks with the norm as they fall firmly in what can be termed as smart casual wear.
The range includes a Crewknit, V-Neck and a Zipknit design and thankfully being manufactured from 100% lambswool, they all provide comfort and warmth. Another standout feature is they show the company commitment to quality. They’re of a medium weight with contrasting detail on the neck and cuffs and are ideal for any outdoor pursuit or leisure activity.
However, while two are quite standard in design, the unusually termed ‘Zipknit’ is quite interesting due to the zip neck giving it the obvious attribute of temperature regulation. Also, the high knitted ribbed collar/neck gives an extra and useful amount of protection from the elements, thus making this particular option far handier to use as a layer under a heavy or light waterproof jacket.
To sum up, these are good quality tops at an incredibly reasonable price and there’s a style or specific design that’ll suit many outdoor and active leisure uses.
