KWA CQBR Mod 1

KWA CQBR Mod 1

The M4 is one of the most famous and widely used rifles in the world today, and also happens to be one of the most sought after airsoft replicas, and for that matter the most copied and produced – so the KWA CQR MOD1 has a lot to live up to…

There are countless variants of this rifle throughout the airsoft industry. KWA is one of the best high-end manufacturers of quality airsoft replicas in the market today and are still working on trying to give consumers the best products at the best prices. An example of this commitment to value is that rifles in this new range each come with 3 x KWA polymer mid-cap magazines. These magazines are extremely well made, tough and fit the magazine well nicely.

Outside

The KWA M4 CQR Mod1 is not your typical M4 airsoft replica, and you will find it hard to tell that it’s not of full metal construction.  At first glance it is barely noticeable that the lower receiver is made of polymer. The quality of the build used is so good that it’s made the polymer lower receiver and metal top receiver blend together so well they appear to be made of the same material. The rifle has a one piece metal outer barrel with standard M4 polymer handguard which houses the battery. The handguard feels solid and there is no wobble with its connection but it’s easy enough to remove it to put the battery in with minimal effort. The front sight is the usual M4 triangular unit and a fully adjustable, removable metal rear sight is also included.

The charging handle is metal and pops open the ejection port dust cover when pulled and gives access to the hop-up adjustment dials. The fire selector switch moves perfectly around the three firing options: safe, semi and full auto, while the trigger has a nice firm feel.

The stock is a standard polymer 6 position retractable unit and can easily be replaced with any after-market stock if desired.

Inside

The hop-up unit is fairly standard as with other AEGs of this type. It is plastic but well made and is very easy to adjust. The gearbox is metal and has the KWA logo. It has full metal gears. They are unmarked and very well greased. The sector gear has a sector chip fitted which can help with BB’s feeding, although some players and airsoft techs will argue that a sector chip will only cause added stress on the tappet plate and can actually lead to unnecessary wear and tear, a matter of much debate - better left for technical airsoft forums!

The piston head is made of aluminium and very lightweight, the spring guide is a ball bearing type giving a smooth low friction contact with the piston. The cylinder is brass and has a big port opening on its side, with very good compression. The gearbox also features 8mm ball bearing bushings which again help relieve some of the stress exerted on the gears.

The motor is a KWA high torque unit which can handle the power of lipo batteries and on paper they say it can power up to an M170 spring, not that you would ever want or need it to do that!

In Short…

This rifle fires between 340 to 350 fps out of the box with good range and tight grouping up to about 40 yards. The polymer mags feed very well and they fit tightly into the mag well.

The rifle is light but feels very robust and would be ideal for younger players or those who don’t want to cart around lots of weight, with the polymer mid-caps I think this model could also appeal to MilSim (military simulation) players.

The rifle fires and cycles very well. The high quality internals are very obvious even by simply listening to the rifle fire. I would say that the polymer lower receiver influences the sound of the rifle but nonetheless it fires really, really, well.

This rifle retails for under £250 Making it one of the most affordable high quality airsoft RIF’s (realistic imitation firearms) in the market today.

LIKES - Light weight but extremely robust, with High quality internals , superbly detailed externals, great out-of-the-box performance, brilliant range, and of course, iconic M4 styling.

DISLIKES - The plastic lower receiver could be an issue for some people and the KWA logo on the receiver may upset the real gun company trademark lovers.

CONCLUSION - All in all, I’ve got to be honest and say I love this rifle and I forgive the plastic lower receiver it’s been given. This airsoft gun simply shoots beautifully and out matches many models that are much more expensive. Keep up the good work KWA.
