Safari Landholsters

Safari Landholsters

This month’s review comes courtesy of British based Niton Tactical, a company that is very big news in Law Enforcement and who are making the leap into Airsoft with new ‘real steel’ police and military equipment which is now available for average Janes (or Joes) like me and you.

Made to Measure

Niton has taken on the American Safariland Holster brand and have sent me through three holsters for testing all designed for specific pistols – no universal holsters here, this stuff is all individually designed and looks-wise they are pretty darn cool. Each holster comes with different options such as thigh straps, colour options, locking mechanisms and of course fitted to each gun so every holster is different and individual.

Foliage Green ALS Tactical Thigh Holster

We start with the Foliage Green ALS Tactical Thigh Holster code 6354-53-541-MS15, the code refers to the options chosen by the individual in this case the Foliage Green colour (also available in black), the thigh straps and the unique ALS (Automatic Locking System) which I have always been impressed by. As the name suggests the ALS secures your weapon automatically once holstered and has a simple straight up draw once the release is deactivated which involves pushing a lever forward (very easy).

This holster attaches to your belt but also features an adjustable leg strap and a hood guard. It is made of some seriously tough Thermo-moulded plastic which try as I might was very hard to mark – always handy! This particular model was designed for use with the 1911 series of pistols and I used an airsoft equivalent. The fit was great, the pistol was held tightly in the suede lined interior which is ideal for not getting scratches on your favourite toy and the release mechanism was easy to use one handed. Retailing at £219.17 it’s not cheap but you’re getting one hell of a lot of holster for your money.

QLS Tactical Holster

story continues below...

Next up is another leg strap holster the QLS Tactical Holster code 6005-149-551. QLS allows for a smoother single motion draw and greater protection against attempted weapon takeaways. It features SLS (Self Locking System) a rotating hood system and is seen here in Flat Dark Earth colour but is also available in Black. This boasts many of the same features seen above in the ALS Holster but with a different locking mechanism and a smoother draw - well for me anyway! This holster was again very easy to use and is designed to fit the Springfield Armoury XD40 which fitted perfectly and locked down easily with no movement. The lining on the inside of the holster is a very nice touch.

I found this holster to be incredibly comfortable to wear and it was by far my favourite of the holsters tested - an opinion which was echoed by everyone that saw me using it (I believe the exact words were “Cool, where the hell did you get that!”)

These holsters are ordered on an individual basis and the price is £222.30 I also need to mention that each price is based on the models and refinements ordered and it does vary depending on which extras you need.

ALS Tactical Holster

Last but not least we have the ALS Tactical Holster this one the 6335-77-541 designed for the Sig Sauer P220 or P226 it attaches to a belt via a very secure clip, it sits well and comfortably on your hip and has the same ALS feature and locking mechanism as the first holster tested. I found that again this was a very good fit with a smooth draw, with the fully lined interior and the great sense of quality that is universal to all these holsters. It was very comfortable both to wear and operate. Available by individual order the ALS Tactical Holster retails for £207.20.

Conclusions

Overall I was very impressed by these holsters, available in a variety of styles and colours and extremely well made and easy to use it really seems that Niton Tactical are onto a winner with the Safariland brand.
