Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 1879. A good English percussion bar-hammer 6 shot Pepperbox revolver. Circa 1840-1850. The 6 shot barrel group is approx 3 inches in length. Decorative engraving to the frame and the trigger guard. The pistol approx 8 inches overall. In good condition and working order. The pepperbox was invented around the 1830s and was intended for civilian use, but military officers often made private purchases for their own use. James Ewell Brown “Jeb” Stuart (1833-1864) was a U.S. Army officer and later a Major General and cavalry commander for the Confederate States of America during the U.S. Civil War (1861-65). In 1857 he was shot in the chest at point blank range with a pepperbox revolver by a Cheyenne warrior, Stuart survived probably due rumour has it, to a very weak powder charge.Ref 1879.
