Americana - A very rare and unique 19th Century whalebone scrimshawed walking cane, the handle carved and engraved in the form of an eagles head. Some red ink decoration around the eagle's neck and beak. Very fine quality carving. Probably done during long voyages at sea. The cane is engraved and named to "Capt W. Ward, BK Eagle, New York". From the little research that we have so far been able to undertake, the Black Eagle was we believe, a North American whaling ship. This cane was quite probably made around 1830-1870. Good condition with no damage. Length approx 35 inches. Guaranteed completely authentic. An extremely rare item in superb condition. Ref 9370.
