The number of photographers employed to cover the achievements of the German army must have been huge judging by the number of images in this work. They were obviously intended for publication to feed what must have been an insatiable demand from the newspapers and journals. Many of these images have never been published before, but some do have familiarity about them. Even so, this is an interesting work for collectors, re-enactors, modellers and general readers alike. The explanatory text and extended captions say much about the images and lead to a better understanding of what we see. Images of hardship, combat and relaxation make this a well-rounded collection. Weapons enthusiasts will also appreciate the work for the same reason.
