Guadalcanal 1942-43

Many of the battlefields included on the itineraries of specialist tour companies are easily accessible, but for the more discerning battlefield tourist there is Guadalcanal. The author points out there is still much to see on this island which was once the battleground between Japanese and US troops. In the history of the USMC its name is regarded with awe. Any veterans from that bloody fight are honoured.

This work examines this first major engagement which gave a foretaste of what was to come as the USMC assaulted one Japanese-held island after another. It was brutal and unforgiving and the author conveys this. The numbers of troops involved was staggering and the casualty list heavy. The amount of ammunitions fired and the conditions will astound the reader as the fighting raged from land, sea and in the air.
