Sherman in the pacific war

Sherman in the pacific war

The combat history of the Sherman tank in Europe has been well-documented from Normandy to the Rhine. This timely book details the use of the Sherman in the Pacific War, which was a logistical nightmare. For D-Day there was only one amphibious landing to organise, but in the Pacific there were many such landings and each one was unique. The distances involved were huge and exceeded anything experienced in Europe.

The author describes the organisation of tank battalions and the variants of the Sherman along with the versions developed, such as the flamethrower. Each landing is covered from Taupota in October 1943 to the last on Okinawa in April 1945. On this landing the USMC deployed 800 tanks against which the Japanese had only 30 tanks.

Historians, modellers and war gamers alike will find themselves referring to this book many times and is a masterful study of tanks in war.
