Sniper Rifles from the 19th to the 21st Century Book

Sniper Rifles from the 19th to the 21st Century Book

story continues below...

The period covered in the book is the time when sniping really came into its own from the Napoleonic Wars through to present Afghanistan.  At one time the British army stated that for a man to become a sniper he must ‘…have the makings of a good shot…’ the author explains what makes a sniper and the weapons and ammunition used. No book on sniping would be complete without reference to Plunkett’s achievements in the Napoleonic Wars and the book contains his story along with other incidents.  Journalists use the term ‘sniper’ far too freely today when reporting from conflicts, but they are confusing random shooting with the skilled marksmanship of a well-trained sniper. This is a serious book on a serious subject as the author points out and after reading this work the definition of sniper will be better understood.
