Battle of the Bulge

Battle of the Bulge

story continues below...

The Battle of the Bulge, to give the operation its most recognisable term, was Hitler’s last gasp at trying to stave off the inevitable. The offensive has been the subject of films, documentaries and many books, but this work, first published in 1999, contains the impressions of the German generals involved in the operation. Contained in this single volume is the German perspective to give the point of view from ‘the other side’. It works by presenting a balance of opinions to even out things. All the big names are here, from Manteuffel to Model and Patton. The interview with Von Rundstedt is particularly interesting, covering, as it does, various sections of the battle. It may not fill any gaps for some readers, but it just might give rise to questions concerning some preconceived notions.
