British Armoured Car Operations in World War One

British Armoured Car Operations in World War One

story continues below...

After a brief introduction, the author goes straight into the subject of the book, which is the use of armoured cars in WWI.

The Royal Navy Armoured Car Division served on the Western Front in Europe, but here it is the operational role in the Middle East, Africa and Russia which takes up most of the history. It is an aspect of the war which is often covered in general passing remarks, but here the role receives the credit it is due. Some of the place names such as Bardia and Mersa Matruh would become familiar again 25-years later, and in WWI conditions were just as harsh. The numbers of troops, miles covered and supplies required will make the reader re-evaluate the role of the armoured car in WWI, and the fighting in the area between British and Turk and other nationalities, also.
