Sniper in Helmand

Sniper in Helmand

story continues below...

The stress, the constant danger and worry all make a tour of duty in Afghanistan a place where men change. A sniper’s role is a solitary existence with perhaps only one other man as a companion. You come to rely on one another in such situations and this work, written by a serving soldier as a diary, tells of that teamwork. This is not perhaps the best written on the subject, but it does contain some interesting detail on weapons and other equipment to make the reader want to learn more. It tells of fire-fights but also the monotony between situations. Why the author feels it necessary to mention the actor turned celebrity documentary frontman Ross Kemp is anyone’s guess, when the story has enough body of its own.
