Olivon 7 x 30WP and Visionary 10 x 42 Wetland Binoculars

Olivon 7 x 30WP and Visionary 10 x 42 Wetland Binoculars

Recently I tested a trio of monoculars from Optical Hardware. Suitably impressed I now have the Olivon 7 x 30WP and the Visionary branded 10 x 42 Wetland binos. Although both have similar key features they’re configured slightly differently. However, both have rubberised-armoured bodies, twist-up eyecups, ocular adjustment ring, main focus dial and are fully waterproof, shockproof and fogproof.

OLIVON

The Olivon’s measure 160 x 125 x41mm, weigh 476g and focus to 2m. The coated lenses feature BAK4 prisms, the twist up/down eye cups will suit those with normal vision as well as spectacle wearers. To adjust the binoculars to suit your particular eyesight. It’s advised you first close your right eye and focus in on an object using the main focus dial. Then using the right eye with the left eye closed you adjust the ocular ring (base of R/H eyepiece) to fine focus in on the object observed. The twist up eyecups can be set to suit for optimum viewing comfort and then to observe at any distance you only then need alter the main focus dial.

Although some prefer this more ‘traditional’ design they can seemingly feel a tad large for the specification they offer. This is due to the main focus dial being positioned centrally on the high-back, open hinge, body casing. That aside, the Olivon 7 X 30WP give a bright and clear sight image even in relatively dull overcast weather conditions.

VISIONARY

story continues below...

Next up are the Visionary 10 x 42s from the Wetland range. The model featured being just one of eight with specifications that vary from 8 x 25 to 12 x 42. Waterproof they measure 150 x 115 x 55mm, weigh 615 grams and are more compact so give an ergonomic slim and stylish appearance. Also, the rubber armoured body casing of any ‘Wetland’ model has extra grip aids of ‘dimples and ridging’ moulded-in.

Another superior feature is the high grade roof prisms and coated lenses give a very high level of image quality, clarity and colour contrast right to the very edges of the sight picture. However, the FOV is obviously less than that offered by the previous model.

The Olivon on test is of a more modern but ‘traditional’ design, while the ‘compact’ classed Wetland, are not only higher in specification but far slimmer and more ergonomic. Both models come with front and rear lens covers, neck strap and canvas carry case with an adjustable/removable shoulder strap and belt loop. Add to this a 10-year guarantee and you’ve got two very appealing ‘scanners’ of different design of which I’m sure one or both will appeal to a wide variety of shooters and/or outdoorsmen.

FOR: Good build quality Controls operate smoothly Coated lenses give excellent sight pictures
AGAINST: Not a lot
VERDICT: Two good examples from the comprehensive range Optical Hardware offers
