Nuprol COG

The NUPROL brand uses the tagline ‘Dominate The Field’ in all their advertising and boy, oh boy, are they living up to that themselves! They just keep rolling out superb airsoft products at great prices and the latest thing that I’ve been able to get my grubby little hands on are their magnified optics.

If you’re putting together a tactical style rifle where you are intending to get the best distance and accuracy possible, then one of the key elements of this is finding the right optic. Of course you also want to make sure that you’ve got the close range options ticked off as well, and in both the sights I’m going to look at here you can see that the guys behind NUPROL are airsofters themselves as they’ve got that covered too!

Both of the optics are absolutely perfect if you’re looking at a British Forces inspired loadout, as one appears periodically on the L85, whilst the other sits steadfastly on the L119A1s used by UKSF; let’s take the latter first.

The NPCOG 4x32 sight is a very accurate replica of the TA01NSN Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG) used by both UK and US Special Forces. It comes very securely packaged and upon opening the box you are presented with the NPCOG itself on a standard rail mount (this can be removed if you want to run the sight on a standard M16 carry handle) along with a backup, close range ‘DR’ sight; this little red dot can be mounted on the rear of the main sight or used as a standalone as it comes with its own rail mount and is a little CQB corker in its own right. If you want to do this then standard backup iron sights are included as well.

story continues below...

The sight offers 4x magnification with a 32mm objective lens, and the sight picture is absolutely crystal-clear. The modern range-finding crosshairs are easy to acquire, and everything is adjustable for windage and elevation. The glass is a great quality, as is everything about the sight; the matt Black or FDE finishes are very well achieved and look great, and the whole thing, once put together using the tools included, is as solid as a rock. Expect to pay iro £135.00 for a WECOG, but do bear in mind that you’re really getting two sights in one for this price!

Phantom Menace

If you’re looking to put together a good current-day British infantry loadout, then the next sight is one that you’re going to love, as the PHANTOM F is the spitting image of the SPECTRE sight often seen gracing the top rail of the L85A2. This is an absolutely cracking bit of kit, and again comes with the removable ‘DR’ backup red dot; there are also iron sights incorporated into the main body of the sight so you are totally covered!

Available in Black and FDE the PHANTOM comes on with a QD mount as standard and a padded carrying case should you wish to transport it off your rifle.

Once again, the sight offers 4x magnification with a 32mm objective lens, but in this model you get an illuminated reticle which is fully adjustable for brightness with either red of green illumination modes; akin to the NPCOG, everything is adjustable for windage and elevation. The package includes all the tools required for adjustment and fitting of the sight, and there’s even a nice little lens cloth in the box. Due to these additional features expect to pay iro £180.00 for the PHANTOM, which in my opinion for the sheer quality of the sight is a great price!

So in terms of optics for your UK inspired loadout that’s job done, tick, thanks to NUPROL. The only thing that is missing from the two sights is the distinctive wing mount used by UK Forces to protect the red dot; you’d have to be an absolute ‘stitch-bitch’ to let that be a problem, but knowing the NUPROL team they’ve probably already got that in the pipeline!
