Best Fittings charging gear

Part of the problem comes from having an array of different manufacturers - all with their own idea of the best way to charge a rifle. PCP’s are nearly always supplied with a charging adaptor, yet very little standardization exists, which can be a headache for any budding enthusiast. Most shooters will only possess one air bottle or pump, so owning several rifles from different manufacturers can often mean getting the spanners out to endlessly remove and reconnect different adaptors.

Even supposing you’re a level headed individual who can take this sort of aggravation in your stride, the chances are that technical problems will arise in the long run. Constantly undoing and re-tightening threaded joints is hardly ideal, and wear and tear will eventually result in that tell tale hiss, confirming a less than ideal air seal somewhere in the set-up. Sound familiar? Then read on.

Spanner Free

Best Fittings is a specialist engineering company based in Dorset, which supplies and manufactures dedicated airgun charging accessories, all with a view to making our lives easier.

Their Quick Coupler Starter Kit is a best seller, and having now switched over to their system, all I can say is I can’t quite believe it has taken me this long! As an airgun tester, I’m constantly switching from one air system to another, and my spanner set has never been far away. All that hassle though, is now a thing of the past. The kit from Best Fittings comprises two of their quick release couplers, two doughty seals, the bayonet Daystate style quick-release adaptor, and a cable plug. The bayonet adaptor is simply screwed into your air supply cable (from either bottle or pump), then any other type of rifle adaptors are screwed into the quick couplers, ready for use. Thereafter, to charge a different rifle, the relevant manufacturers adaptor (pre-fitted with that coupler) is just plugged into the bayonet fitting by hand.

When not in use, the cable plug is just pushed into place, preventing at a stroke, any foreign bodies from entering the system. All simple stuff, yet extremely effective.

Charging Direct

Specialist fittings for most makes of rifle are also available, to cater for charging removable ‘buddy’ cylinders directly for example; with a recent testing session of the new Hammerli AR20 rifle a case in point. With the removable cylinder requiring a chunky 1inch threaded adapter to complete the task, I soon realized that my kit bag couldn’t oblige. One quick call to the ever helpful Richard at Best Fittings, and the relevant attachment was soon on its way.

Finely machined adaptors for silencers are about to come on line too, so Best Fittings’ product list is growing by the day. All I can say is, the machining is excellent, and with the quality of the items on test here, this versatile company deserves to succeed. Give them a call to discuss your requirements, and I have a feeling you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
