Hornady’s Lock-N-Load Bolt Ball is a superb little accessory that improves the handling characteristics of most rifle types, with a seemingly ‘show-off’appearance, yet provides incredible improvements to bolt handle operation and tactile dexterity. The rubber ball is hollow and simply shuffles and wriggles into place as it stretches over the metal or polymer bolt handle on your rifle. It allows bolt operation with less likelihood of slipping when rushing.
On a rimfire with a 17mm ball handle close into the stock, this cover enabled bolt access and operation with just the index fingertip. Simply flick it open, cock the action and expel the fired case, before closing forward with a new one chambered for the next shot. The white Hornady logo won’t last forever, yet the tough rubber sphere will last a long time.
These things are really handy and for what they cost, it’s folly to not try one and see if it improves the effortfree ergonomic interaction with your rifle in the warm and dry. When cold and wearing gloves, the Hornady Lock-N-Load Bolt Ball really comes into its own and offers up plenty of extra grip.
It’s also well worth noting they can also be trimmed to avoid any undesired stock interaction, thus making sure that short bolt handles still close securely.
