Out of all the shooting disciplines, pigeon shooting often requires the participant to transport and carry the most kit. Reason being, they will likely need to take all the components needed to construct a hide, a seat, shotgun cartridges, and of course a decent quantity of decoys.
Jack Pyke supplies everything that you need, from hide poles, camo netting, all manner of deeks and of equal importance a wide choice of luggage to carry it all in. Incidentally, all the gear I’ve chosen to feature is manufactured from hard-wearing 600D Cordura. All of them, except the decoy bag, can also be purchased in the alternative material, Duotex. Both types include a genuine leather trim, and while the Duotex version affords extra durability and added strength the Cordura gives a vintage feel and traditional appearance.
First up is the Maxi-Decoy bag which measures 75cm long and has a 43cm diameter. It’s obviously been designed for those who require extra storage for associated equipment when transporting decoys.
It features a huge main compartment with approximately 120-litres of capacity, and its waterproof wipeable lining is also very useful for carrying ‘bagged birds’ off your permission at the end of the day.
For any other related kit, there are two, 7-litre capacity, zipped side pockets as well as a dedicated pocket for carrying hide poles. The bag can be carried with a top grab handle or on your back, thanks to its two very well-padded adjustable shoulder straps. To keep everything stored safely inside during transportation there’s a top cover flap positioned under the strong toggle cord closure. If that wasn’t enough, there are also elasticated cartridge holders integrated into the build with the capacity to hold 20 cartridges. This further increases the bag’s versatility and practicality. As with all the luggage featured it is available in Green or English Oak Evolution Camo.
Next up is the Game Bag, which is actually a great choice for those looking for a storage bag not only for hunting and shooting but also foraging or even fishing.
Measuring 29 x 42 x 10cm it features a full-size mesh net pocket on the front for extra storage, plus has a wipeable and water-resistant PVC lining. The adjustable shoulder strap makes it very comfortable to wear for lengthy periods and allows it to be easily tailored to suit your build. It fastens at the front by two leather straps with traditional buckles and has a leather trim.
The Speed Loader Cartridge Bag will appeal to driven game shooters. It measures 27 x 10 x 20cm and holds approximately 70 –100 loose cartridges (depending on their size). The opening allows quick access to your ammunition, but the full top over-flap ensures stored cartridges are fully protected from the elements. To ensure comfort throughout the day the shoulder strap is fully adjustable, and (the reason it carries the ‘Speedloader’denotation) it also features an integral shell holder for four non-toxic cartridges. As for appearance, the traditional faux leather and buckle fastening gives the bag a quite classy appeal.
Now to the most important accessory for any shooter; a gun slip. Not only is it needed for carrying your gun, but is a legal necessity when travelling or moving through a public area.
Measuring 122 x 22cm and with an all-leather trim it can be carried via its grab handle or can be slung across your shoulders, using the adjustable shoulder strap. The full-length zip opening allows the gun to be quickly and easily accessed at any time. Generous thick internal padding provides extra cushioning and protection, while the front pouch adds to its practicality, a useful place to store ammunition. A hang hook at the muzzle complements and completes the design of this highly important piece of luggage.
The company has other pigeon shooting specific luggage available, plus a selection of gear for all shooting disciplines. It’s highly recommended you check out their website to find something that meets your requirements.
