Primos Trigger Stick Gen II Deluxe

Primos Trigger Stick Gen II Deluxe

In general, shooting sticks are an acquired taste and it takes time and effort to get used to whichever design you prefer, be it twin leg, tripod or even quad sticks. Primos added a nifty twist the market with the Trigger Stick. Now in Gen II format, with a few subtle upgrades, the high-quality 7075 Aluminium legs coupled to trigger adjustable positioning add extra strength, although you are still warned not to use these as self-supporting walking sticks.

The basic design ploy is that when you squeeze the trigger, the legs will fall to the floor under their own weight and can be positioned by nudging them with your feet. You can then re-apply the trigger and using the pistol grip style handle, allow each of the three legs to move freely, so that it can be positioned at the correct height with solid thee leg stability accounting for any uneven ground surface, all with one hand! The standard ‘V’ yoke above the gip has rubber fins to take a snug grip on your rifle’s forend and it also works well to support any optical accessory you may desire. All inner threads and workings retain the common ¼- and 3/8-inch fittings compatible with photography kit. It’s silent in use and the yoke can be as low as 560mm from the ground or stand as high as 1650mm with all three legs vertical at full extension. The yoke/grip rotates freely through 360° and a small lever behind the trigger will lock it in position to ensure no accidental adjustments are allowed.

Accessorise

Now, I quite like quad sticks and have had great success shooting with them, as they offer great support but are a little bulky and often very difficult to adjust silently in the field. Primos offer the optional 2-point gun rest that fits atop the Trigger Sticks and coverts a single yoked rest, requiring gun support, into a fully self-stable gun rest. Two height adjustable rubberised V notches sit either end of 400mm twin aluminium bars, will fold for transport and as well as having quick adjustment to fit your gun’s forend and butt stock into them, have a tilt facility above the grip, allowing elevation adjustment as well as full rotation as before. Yes, they are a little bulky and you are unlikely to carry them onto the hill in Scotland stalking Reds but where they do perform is with rifle mounted night vision. These often bulky units, often requiring unconventional head positioning with short eye relief, are superb when mounted atop the unit setup this way, as you can wait in ambush and use the rifle quickly and silently over wide arcs of fire with full standing or seated support. A locking screw on the elevation dial assures stability and although you won’t leave your gun waving about atop this unit in the wind, it is fantastic to both spot and shoot from with centrefire rifles and I had no problem at all with 250-yard shots in complete darkness without undue fatigue or discomfort.

Conclusion

After six-months of use, they have accompanied me on every night time jaunt and I have found no quality problems or diminished functionality, the legs still fall silently under their own weight and are rock solid when adjusted for excellent gun control and stability at a moment’s notice.
