Every shooter should have a gun mat for placing down on a suitable work area, such as a bench or table so that they can undertake work on their gun. The jobs that need doing will most likely include stripping, cleaning and lubricating a gun using the correct chemicals, oils and lubricants.
Measuring 900 x 255 x 5mm (LxWxD), the Jack Pyke silicone gun maintenance mat is a great accessory for keeping your workspace tidy and stain-free. It features recessed sections to keep tools (even cleaning rods) and parts such as brushes and mops etc contained so that they don’t roll around and make a mess. Made of a durable, soft, green-coloured silicone rubber, it’s solvent and oil-resistant, plus the surface is non-slip and easy to clean. When not in use, it can be hung up or rolled up for storage.
When rolled up, the mat has a diameter of approximately 10cm, making it quite compact. This packability is a laudable trait, as it means the mat can be taken into the field in inclement weather. Propping a rifle up against a fence or tree is a no-no, so if you have this in your rucksack, then you’re able to lay your rifle down on it to protect it from wet grass or muddy ground.
