BASC training numbers up 85 per cent

BASC’s sporting services team enjoyed a successful 2016 with the number of members undertaking training courses exceeding 900 for the first time. The figure reflects an 85 per cent increase from 2015 and a 287 per cent rise from 2014. BASC, the UK's largest shooting organisation with a membership of more than 148,000, runs 19 different ‘off the shelf’ courses as well as bespoke training for a range of organisations and individuals.

The DSC1, designed for anyone new to stalking who is seeking advice and guidance, proved the most popular course of the year. There are 14 more of these courses taking place in the first six months of 2017. Tim Russell, BASC’s acting head of sporting services, said: “BASC's courses not only provide training for experienced shooters that want to improve their skills, or move into a different type of shooting, but they also enable people that have not shot before to get started.

“Providing pathways into shooting is important to the continued growth of our sport and there is no better way of achieving that than through a BASC course."
